Now reading for issue #3!
For all submissions, please include your name and address at the top of the first page, name and page numbers on each additional page.
Please double space all prose. Single-space all poetry.
Please paste a press-ready bio in the cover letter/bio field.
Cover letters aren't required and won't affect our reading, but we think it's a nice touch to include them if you'd like. If you'd like to tell us what your favorite zoo animal is and why, or what the worst thing is you've ever done, that's okay too. If you want to call us a bunch of assholes, I guess that's your prerogative.
Multiple and simultaneous subs are encouraged. Send multiple subs as a SINGLE file.
And please, please, do not exceed 10 PAGES or 6 POEMS TOTAL. We will rarely read it if you do. In fact, less than 10 pages is even better.
If you would like to purchase a copy of the current issue with your submission at a small discount, that is available below, otherwise submit under Stuff Not Things or Arts/Comics.
Barge Journal seeks stuff, not things. Sometimes we eat pepper spray. Sometimes we shove our heads in stacks of tv's playing static. Sometimes we wrap ourselves in plastic wrap and crawl like slugs across the sidewalk. Sometimes we drink on abandoned boats beached on the riverside. Always we enjoy finding new work that doesn't look like things we've seen before. You know the piece you have where you can't submit to places that ask you to call it fiction or poetry because it is too confusing for you to decide? Yeah. That's the one we want.
Apparently some confusion here, so let us clarify that it is purely OPTIONAL to purchase the most recent issue of Barge Journal along with your submission. For "fee-free" submissions, submit under Stuff Not Things directly below.
Buying with your sub will earn you a little discount on the purchase of Barge Journal #1 as a token of thanks to everyone who submits to us. (and some of this goes to help support the wonderfully awesome folks at submishmash who, of course, provide us with our submission manager)
Make sure your address is included.
(Submission guidelines same as Stuff Not Things category)
Other things that may excite us:
Things made of toothpicks. Drawings of old people. Elaborate paintings of birds eating birds. Must be b/w -- we don't have the money for color images yet except for the cover.
submit all pieces as a single pdf or jpg. No need for hi-res unless we ask for it.
